Phan Thiet Mui Ne
We walked to the travel company to wait for our bus to Mui Ne. We were the first ones there (well we thought we were but the waiting area was next door) and there was a delivery of water. We were sat in the entrance of the agents so Jake offered to help them carry it in, thinking it would only be a couple of crates of water. Turns out the whole lorry load was for the company and once he started he couldn't stop. It passed the 20 minute waiting time anyway and the manager of the company ran over the shop to get him a red bull. Anne Marir still drank half of it even though she just sat there. The locals were so thankful saying how good a man Jake was but it was only to pass the time because the bus is always at least quarter of an hour late.
When the bus turned up we realised it was a sleeper bus. This is where the seats are more like beds. Jake being the tallest on the bus we got given the back seats where taller people can still fit there legs in. We looked forward and recognised we were the only white people on the bus. When we stopped at the first stop, the man spoke in Vietnamese on the microphone and we had no idea what we were meant to do, where we were or how long until the bus would leave. I mean how dare they not speak English! ( I joke, obviously) We got off the bus for a toilet break and to buy a drink. All the local people were staring at us especially Jake like he was some sort of giant! Ordering a drink just involved a lot of pointing and saying coke louder, although I'm not sure how shouting it made it any easier for the young girl than saying it!
We arrived at our stop after the driver said 'you off now'. We asked a local security guard and showed him the address, he just pointed up. It was our hotel up a giant hill. There were three hotels owned by the same person. All with similar names. Mui Ne hill budget, Mui Ne hill bliss and Mui Ne Hill villa. All could have access to the swimming pools and facilities. We went for the budget hotel which Jake found from searching trip advisor! Being rated 3 out of 260 odd hotels he thought it must be something special at just 11 pound a night. When we checked in the receptionist explained because we booked for two nights we've upgraded you to bliss... Result! Not only did we get upgraded we were also in one of the best rooms in the hotel with the biggest balcony. We arrived at 10 to 10, by the time we checked in and changed it was gone 10. After a long bus journey we were hungry but the kitchen was already closed. We ordered a drink and asked the owner if there was anywhere close by we could grab a snack. He re-opened the kitchen just for us to have food! Then he asked what room we were in for him to say that's the VIP room! Immediately after that we went to reception and booked another night. Although the room we were in was taken they still managed to get us a room in the bliss building for budget price!
The following day we walked down to the beach. Mui Ne is a windy town and is infamous for windsurfing. There must have been 100 wind surfers in the sea, after we sat down and watched them we decided the pool was far too nice not to be in. This is where we enjoyed 40p beers and £1 gin and tonics and mojitos. They also have a selection of Street food adding up to a pound a meal.
Mui Ne is also famous for its sand dunes. We booked a jeep tour for $6 each. After persuading Anne marie to do the sun rise tour we woke up a 3:40am. After the last sun rise tour we hoped to actually see the sunrise. Jesus Christ we did! Sitting on the white dunes watching the sun rise up was well worth getting up for. I really don't know how Steven can get up at 2 and call it 'morning'! It's most definitely still night time! After this we went to the red sand dunes then a little fishing village and then a fairy stream which was... Well... s***. But it was such a good trip for the price. When people say sand dunes we just thought of the ones at Crantock. Although we'll upload pictures just Google white sand dunes Mui Ne just to give them justice.
We're off to Dalat tomorrow. 4 hours further north. We have to book everything as soon as possible because of the holiday season. So we are not sure how long we will be there for. It also could be the last place where it's hot!
