After breakfast, I ventured out towards where I had been yesterday, and took myself round La Recoleccion. This was a monastery founded by the. Order of the Recollects in 1700. But after only a few years, it was damaged considerably during the earthquake of 1717 and again in 1751. After each, it was extensively repaired. However today it exists today only as ruins, having been extensively plundered for building materials and misuse over the following centuries. After the bustle of the town centre it was nice to have whole site to myself. After this, I visited the textile museum, where I was able to learn about the varied textiles of the different regions of Guatemala and how the weaving took place. The rest of the day was spent soaking up the atmosphere of Antigua, before moving hotels and meeting my tour group at 6.00pm, and our CEO Ali, who then took us for a local Guatemalan meal before retiring early to bed.
