Hiya everyone!
It’s been a mental few days! Kate and I arrived back in Bangkok after a nightmare 15 hour train journey from Vientienne in Laos to Bangkok. I had to spend the morning chasing around trying to get a visa for India sorted and then we hit Kha San Road!
Matt arrived the next afternoon and we headed straight out to celebrate Kate’s last night and Matt’s first night. After several drinks in the infamous Irish bar with a crazy live band we headed to another bar. That’s where things all went a bit wrong! Kate and I hit the dancefloor and left Matt to his own devices oops! The next morning I found out he’d been approached by two Thai girls who slipped something in his drink, took him for a drive and relieved him of all his money and cards – welcome to Thailand!! We spent his first day visiting Police Stations and cancelling cards fun!
Yesterday we went west to Kanchanaburi where we visited a cememtary and museum commemortaing the prisoners of war who died building the bridge over the River Kwai and then took a walk over the reconstructed bridge before boarding the ‘Death Railway’?? The train was full of Thai boy scouts and girl guides who could not stop giggling when we sat next to them, it was quite entertaining if a little unnerving! The rest of the afternoon was spent chilling at a waterfall that was more like a Thai weekend resort where they go swimming fully clothed. I don’t know these people have ‘Go go’ girls standing on every corner and ‘ping pong’ shows but have to go swimming fully clothed what’s that all about?!
That evening we enjoyed some ‘special’ dancing by the drunk women that owned the floating house & bungalows we were staying in. She offered us Thai Whisky and then proceeded to copy the young Thai girls that were dancing suggestively on the dvd karaoke on the t.v screen in the bar ok?! Then there was a torrential downpour and all the electricity went out and the bridge across to the bank was swept away great! We eventually made it back across to dry land but it was definitely an eventful night.
Today we rode an elephant in the elephant camp near to Kanchanaburi. We had a 15yr old ‘driver’ named Pom and a pregnant elephant that was 25 so technically we rode 2 elephants. We each got to sit on it’s head and pretend to be in control. I have to say it’s not the most compfortable form of travel. Then we went rafting down the river on a barely afloat bamboo raft. I attempted to swim in the murky river but wasn’t too convinced that it was worth it so gave up. After lunch we went to the Tiger Temple where one by one we were lead round to different tigers that were just lying or sitting around and got to touch them and have photo’s taken. The photo’s say them all, I was stroking one and it hiccuped and I totally s**t myself! They are HUGE, they would totally eat me given half the chance but the monks there are totally in control. I was a bit worried when we had to sign a disclaimer before we went in though!
Right now I’m back in Bangkok but we have a flight tomorrow morning to Phuket where I’m going to pretend to be a private dectective and track down an old family friend (wish me luck!). Then we’re off to experience a Full Moon Party yay!
Hope you’re all doing well, it’s bloody hot here!
Love you long time
