Hey everyone!!
I'm currently in Kuala Lumpur after a mental week! After Phuket I missioned my way to Ko Phangan from Bangkok, which involved an overnight bus and a 4.5hour ferry ride nice! In Ko Phangan I found a really nice hut on the beach on the northwest coast of the island, sharing with a French girl I met on the bus. The beach was gorgeous, it was so peaceful and relaxing. Unfortunately this was not the reason I came all the way to Ko Phangan so after a quick dip in the sea I went down to the southern tip of the island to meet up with the Aussie and Swedish guys I'd met tubing in Vang Vieng, Laos.
Ben and Elliot the Aussie guys had a sweet hut on the beach too, but with A.C, t.v and right in the middle of the party zone. They had a spare bed so I spent the rest of the time there, which was cool because they were travelling with a mini dvd player and had a ton of cool films!
The first night we headed down to the main beach to start the celebrations before the full moon party a few days later. The next four nights followed pretty much the same theme; buckets, dancing on the beach and then spending the day lying on the beach or in the hut watching films. Apparently the rest of the island is really beautiful and there is some amazing snorkelling but I wouldn't know anything about that doh! By the time the Full Moon party came about we were sooooo knackered but resolved to carry on, such troopers! By this time we had been joined by two Canadian girls (Emma and Jackie) and a few more Aussies (Kat, Matt and Sam). At the party we lost each other instantly. There were people passed out everywhere, throwing up and peeing in the sea so nice. I bumped into all the English guys I'd met in Kanchanaburi and later Bangkok, it was madness. It was a wicked night but the next day was not fun. I was definitely ready to leave the day later!
On the 6th I headed south with one of the Canadian girls (Emma) and the two Swedes to Hat Yai. It was a long journey first on the ferry and then in a mini bus. Hat Yai is where Malaysians go to, and I quote from the Rough Guide book 'to shop and get laid'. It was just a concrete jungle, there was nothing to see so the next day we got a bus all the way down to Kuala Lumpur. When we crossed the Malaysian border one of the customs guys came running after us, but it was just to give us some baseball caps and fans with their logos on it, so sweet. We wore them proudly for the rest of the day much to the amusement of the Malaysians on our bus. We got to Kuala Lumpur quite late in the evening so there wasn't much choice of accomodation left. We ended up in tiny cells with bunkbeds made for dwarfs, no windows or air con until about 2am when it came on full blast freezing us to death fun! We moved hostels first thing this morning and are now staying in a 6-bed dorm for just the four of us, with air con AND a fan, such luxury!
Today we visited the Kuala Lumpur tower, where we went up to the observation deck for a kick arse view of Kuala Lumpur. The tower is about 420m high, it's crazy! In fact KL is probably the most developed city I have been in so far, skyscrapers everywhere, Macdonalds, Burger King, KFC even a HSBC! Everyone speaks English as well. Tomorrow we're planning to go and see the Twin Towers and then maybe check out the water park where there's loads of bungee jumps and a bungee ball thing where they strap you in a ping you up and down on elastic bands, I know what I'm talking about anyway! I'll let you know if I manage the ball thingy but there's no way on earth I'm jumping off a platform and doing a bungee jump rah!!
Hope you're all doing well, it's still really hot here :-)
