Hey everyone!
So I finally made it to Thailand, it only took 3 days! I left Lima on the 16th for Buenos Aires, spent the day in the airport and then flew to Kuala Lumpur via Cape Town and Johannesburg. Spent a few hours in the airport in Kuala Lumpur before flying to Bangkok yay!
It's so strange here after being in South America, I definitely don't like not being able to speak the language but it should be interesting! Kate gets here in a couple of days and then we are heading off to Cambodia, followed by Vietnam and then northen Laos before making our way back down through Thailand.
The last couple of days I've been doing a bit of sightseeing in Bangkok. My first day here I took a longtail boat up the river and saw the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun), which has five prangs and is massive. I also visited the Royal Barge Museum where there are about 8 ornate barges that are all really old but got damaged when we bombed them during WWII oops. I also saw some of the riverside communities, some of the houses are really pretty, others are more like wooden shacks about to collapse into the river, a bit depressing. They have absolutely massive fish in the river that all fight each other for scraps of bread, there is one place along the river where the fish are protected by Buddha or the King or something but everwhere else you can fish. Finally we visited the Floating Market, which only happens at weekends. I had the nicest food off one of the stalls for like 50p yunmmy and I feel ok the day after! On the tour I met the ex-hsband of my old P.E teacher, who was on holiday with his very young(!) Chinese girlfriend very strange.
At the end of the tour I got dropped off in Chinatown where there are hundreds of tiny little alleyways crammed with little stores. There's also a whole street devoted to the sale of gold. I went to visit the Golden Buddha, which is about 700yrs old, over 5 tons and made of pure gold! It was only discovered in 1955, not that interesting though.
Today I went to see the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaeo, the royal temple next to it. All very impressive and ornate but there were so many tourists and it's soooooo hot here I soon gave up. After negotiating my way across the road I made it to the National Museum. It's very detailed and full of interesting artefacts but again I soon got bored and went off to find the famous Khao San Road.
I'm def staying here the next time I'm in Bangkok it's mental! I'm sooo going shopping as well does anyone want anything - real genuine fakes yay!
So that's about all I've been up to so far apart from dying from the 12 hour difference! I'm off to do some more sightseeing stuff tomorrow, my last day before Kate arrives ahhh help!
Byeee!
