So my travels have officially begun
i am having such a good time already, although i have only really been on the road for like 4 days. we started the journey but going to ko rat which is just a big city. it was more of a stopping off point on the way to kao yai national park. obviously it is a huge national park and most people get around on day tours or cars which of course we couldnt affor and didnt have so we literally had to hitch-hike our way around. we got into the back of a pick up truck to make our way to the tourist office and then went to the dorms that we would stay in because you could walk to it and it was the cheapest place to stay. the rooms were cold and dank. quite literally a wooden hut with wooden beds and no mattresses. it was quite dire. and in the night it got freezing cold with only one blanket to keep each of us warm. i literally put on all my layers of clothing i brought with me.
the next mornign we made our way to the waterfall that features so heavily in The Beach. it was pretty cool. the next river e went to was infested wth leaches which, anyone who really knows me will know, i hate. i literally broke into a mad panick and stuck out my foot to Fleur so she could get them off me while a clutched to a tree trunk in tears. then we sprinted back up the hill and stood on some tree trunks to get away from the beasts. then a pack of hippies walke past and looked slightly scared by my distressed appearence. a very embarrasing moment.
then we made our way to pak chong to get but to lopburi. we hitch hiked our way and got a lift hoping he would take us to the main entrance so we could get a song tiaw to pak chong but the amazing man actually drove all the way to pak chong and even dropped us off at the train station. what a babe.
first train journey. it was pretty cool. very relaxing and lots of space, but that only cos it wasnt full. i much prefer it to bus travel.
lop buri is brillinat. it is otherwise known as monkey town, mainly for its huge population of monkeys. they rare literally everywhere, climbing on the elctricity poles. woke up this morning to find a mother and its baby sittin goutside our window. but the window was protected by a cage that surround the entire building so that the monkey can get within reach. we did all the old ruins tc and did the whole tourism thing for a good 5 hours which i quite impressive. before retiring to the hotel room to get stuck in some good old Jane Eyre. life is good.
i cant wait to get to our next location of kanchanaburi where the death railway is. featured in "bridge over the river khwai". we are pretty much doing a doing a tour of all the sight in thailand that have featured in a film. suits me just fine :)
