Home Again
I have now come back home after a very relaxing end to my travels. I spent a week being back in pai because it is the easiest place to be in Thailand. Life is so simple and I loved it. I even splashed out on an air con room and it felt so good to curl up under an almost duvet at night rather than sweating it out with a blanket.
The last night we went to chiang mai where I went on a slight shopping spree. I thought I would treat myself considering I wouldn’t have to the opportunity to buy anything nice for myself for quite a while. Its always nice to go back to chiang mai. Since I spent three weeks there in October it feels a little like my second home in Thailand as I have never stayed in any other guest house than pranee’s while being there. So once again I stayed there and treated myself to a pizza because also, the opportunity for western food wont occur for quite a while.
After another very long journey across the country, good 17 hours, I arrive back in my little village. It genuinely felt as if I had never left. It feels as if the last two months just never happened. Absolutely nothing has changed. Apart from the fact our house was very very dirty.
I walked up to my front door for the first time in over 2 months to see a collection of dog s*** waiting for me on the porch. This was not a good start. Inside the floor was grimy. The walls were covered in spiders and spiders webs. The fridge was mouldy. The kitchen (which is kind of partly outside ish) was horrible. The work services were black with dirt and grime. The floor almost muddy. It was not a pretty sight. But apart from, the certainly could have been worse. Apparently one of the volunteers house had a rats nest in it.
So we spent the next day cleaning it up. I spent about three hours just tidying the main room which we had left in a bit of a mess then sweeping and mopping the floor while Fleur tackled the fridge. It was extremely hard work and the wet season has practically begun (early) so it was hot and humid and full of mosquito’s. However, the thunder storms are great.
Eventually though, we finished cleaning the house and it is now tidier than it has been in a very long time. Although, it probably wont last long. We treated ourselves to an afternoon of Greys Anatomy and True Blood. After only one day back in the village we have settled back into our usual routine of not doing very much.
