Arrived in Montevideo today after a 20 hrs bus journey. Really good journey. It had a down stairs where you can chill out and play cards. They came round with drinks and dinner, all included in the price. Shame I had already brought my pack lunch! Dinner was nice but I really do not see why they had to wake us all up and serve it at 12 midnight??? Very strange. The coach steward was very funny, he just laughed at everything. Gave us something to laugh at all the way. We met another ozzy on the bus - Jerry, who is going to hang out with us for a few days. Montevideo is a city, in Uruguy, not very busy. It reminded me of Paris. Very European. Again the food was so cheap. About 2 pounds for dinner. Shoes and clothes all cheap too. Did you know you can buy shoes on credit in South America?? I keep seeing the prices eg. $99 and then underneath it would say 3 x $33. Now we have found out that most people make 3 payments for their shoes. Another strange SA thing. Someone got mugged right next to me today. It scard me a bit but a good thing as it reminded me to be careful with my bag. All the buses were on strike today. They drove round the main square all day sounding their horns. Apparently it was because a bus driver got shot dead last week while working. Nice town!
