Anish's Travels
Day 14,15,16,17,18 (24/03 - 28/03)
Hey guys
Been a few days since i last wrote. Friday, Saturday, Sunday was trekking in the jungle in the hills/mountains, north of Changmai. Stayed with a couple of hill tribe villages on friday and saturday night. Then returned Sunday evening back to Chaing Mai. Was very interesting and loads of fun, but tough. Walking uphill and downhill is tiring and dangerous. Going downhill is the worst. Have to fully concentrate, one step wrong and you would be rolling down the side of the mountain. Some parts were very narrow, had to walk single file and very carefully. Was the best 3 days i have had so far though. There were 13 or 14 people in our trekking group. Was a great group and met some nice people of various ages (us being the youngest in the group), and a few of us have stayed together over the last couple days, hanging out and drinking and stuff. Yes drinking..lots of that over the last few days...Friday night, saturday night, sunday night, monday night...Not tonight though. Gotta be up early tomorrow. Very tired, didnt go to sleep till 5.30 am this morning. Heren and i are staying in different places at the momemt. He's staying in the hotel we were at before we went trekking. Im staying at the guesthouse we arranged our trek through. which is also where all the other guys in our trek group are staying, so its really good over the last couple days. About 1 pound 50 a night, and they got a pool table. Cant go wrong..though i do have an army of ants in my bathroom and my ankles and feet have been tortured by bed bugs. Oh well..i lived in a jungle for 2 days, im sure i can handle a few ants and insect bites. I could go on forever about the trek, but i'll leave the stories for when i get back (which could be slightly earlier cos im a little ahead of schedule). Went and saw some Thai boxing last night, which was pretty cool, and quite vicious. And there were like 8 year old and 12 year old kids doing it, which was quite difficult to watch. I just didnt think it was right. The night was followed by drinking on this cool roof top bar, and then when that closed we went to another bar that looked like a cave...was wicked. They closed all the shutters so was basically a lock in. Today, went to a national park, saw some waterfalls and then just hung out at the guesthouse.
Tomorrow Heren and i go out seperate ways for a couple of days. I leave for Laos taking the long route, whilst Heren will get a flight to Laos in the next couple days. So i will be taking a bus to Chang Khong, a town near the border of Thailand and Laos, spending the night there, and then crossing the border, and taking the slow boat down the Mekong river to Luang Prabang (i think thats how its spelt) with an overnight stay at some river side town. All in all, will take 2 days. I figured the boat would be a bit more interesting than flying; get to see some amzing scenary, and hopefully meet some more travellers. I'll be travelling to Laos and possibly through Laos with a guy that was in our trekking group, so i wont be alone, which is cool.
So, its bye bye from Thailand, and next time i write, it will be hello from Laos (i cant remeber the thai and Lao words for bye and hello. Though i think, for Thailand Sawat di Khrap, or summin like that can mean hello and bye)
Take care
Anish
P.S i have loads of photos of the trek and the days after of our nights out, so keep checking back as it takes ages to upload all the photos at once
