Anish's Travels
Day 50,51 (29/04 - 30/04)
So, i met Canada on Friday night, after a delayed flight due to thuder storms which later reached Phnom Penh.
Yesterday, went to the S21 prison, where during the Khmer Regime under a man called Pol Pot, all educated people were tortured. Basically, this gut sent all the people in Phnom Penh to the country side, to farm, because he wanted to start from the year 0. He felt all educated people where a threat, so he tortured them and their family at S21 prison. Later we went to the killing fields. The prisoners from S21, were taken to S21, and killed by various means. It was basically a mass extermination. Over 9000 skulls have been found and are all on display. At the killing fileds there are still bones in the ground clearly visible, teeth, and remains of clothes. When we were waling around the killing fields, it was raining lightly and thhundering, which added to the atmosphere of the place, giving it a sense of horror.
As soon as we got the killing fields, we were approached by kids begging for money. Its difficult to say no and have a cold heart, but if you give money to one, then all the kids will come to you, expecting you to give them money.
In the afternoon, went to see the Golden Palace and Silver Pagoda. Architecture is very similar to that of the Grand Palace in Thailand. Again, looks pretty amazing. i love the architecture.
Today havent done much, apart from eat some very good Khmer food. Some of the best food i've had since travelling.
Tomorrow of to Siem Reap.
Pictures up soon
