We left the campsite around 10am and headed into Queenstown, firstly I had to get the security tag removed from the hoody which I purchased the day before, it was hidden under the hood and the staff at Ripcurl hadn't seen it. Then we got a few bits from the supermarket and filled up with petrol, we then hit the road again heading for Te Anua. We arrived early afternoon to rain, we did a quick venture into the town and headed for a paid campsite, we needed to charge electricals and a nice hot shower. The next day we woke to rain and it didn't look like it was going to shift. We decided not to do a Milford Sound cruise that day as the weather would only spoil it. We went to the Isite, and they assured us that tomorrow would be a much nicer day. We decided to waste a day and take a slow drive to the furthest DOC campsite on the way to Milford, taking in the sites and walks along the way. We booked an 11.15am boat trip to avoid the crowds and tour buses. That night we stayed at Gunn Lake DOC campsite, we arrived around 4ish which was lucky, the site is only supposed to hold 10 vehicles, but they just kept coming and coming and squeezed themselves into any little spot they could, some were practically in the lake. I guess it is a popular spot as it's the closest camp to Milford, 42km away. We woke early and set off just after 9am for Milford. We had to check in 20mins before our boat trip at 11.15am. We arrived in plenty of time and chilled while admiring the beautiful scenery. The boat trip was great and it wasnt too busy, we were on a smaller boat too which was nice. The scenery was spectacular, we saw bottlenose dolphins, but they were too quick for me to get a picture, and seals and numerous waterfalls. I'm so glad we waited for the weather to clear, it was a lovely day and the visibility was a lot better than the previous day. The afternoon was spent checking out the other view points and walks along the way back to Te Anau, where we spent the night. Tomorrow we are heading to Mount Cook. Hope the weather stays nice.
