Lyon is a charming city with cobblestones streets leading up the steep hill to beautiful Notre Dame cathedral. The internal roof was beautiful , with gold encrusted artwork. We saw the city by bike, which was a good way to cover alot of ground in a few hours. The bikes were electric, so getting up the very steep hill was a breeze . Carcassonne is a medieval village built around the 11th century. It was one of the only forts that was not penetrated at the time. The size of the structures was very impressive. It's what Knightsbridge sounded like, for those who have read Pillars of the Earth. Very cool. Accommodation was great in the B&B above the wine bar. Food was fab, wine was HORRID! Not cool. A big drive north east today to Lyon.

We have had a productive few days scooting around Provence to see the sights. Orange to see Theatre Antique ( built in 27BC , the most impressive Roman site in France) Avignon, Nimes, Pont du Gard to see the Roman aquaduct & of course a visit to Provence would not be complete without climbing to the summit of Mont Ventoux ( and you can hold the applause; for we drove not road. Just a quickie blog for now, as it's been a big day (of food ) and some culture and I'm very tired . Sunday lunches are huge in France, so we had one of those. Then had a nice Sunday dinner including the best chocolate fondant I've had in a while.
