Day 1 in Morocco. Spent it mostly trying to sleep and rest up from the journey here. About to go to the meeting with my group and meet everyone, get the scoop for the coming days and really kick this thing off. As I’m lying here, I’m listening to the first call-to-prayer that I’ll likely hear several times a day every day. I’ve honestly been looking forward to this moment since I started planning this trip. Movies like The English Patient that featured this everyday element of Muslim life captured my heart and imagination. I had hoped hearing it live would be similar to the Hollywood version, and it didn’t disappoint. Starting quietly, I wasn’t sure at first and then he got louder and louder and I knew what I was hearing. So beautiful - I’m sure it’ll be an enduring memory of my time in this country by the end of the trip!
