In telling about the animal kingdom I have been experiencing, I forgot to mention the RAT!!! For the first 2.5 weeks, any time it was quiet in the afternoon or at night we would here what at first was a scratching, then it progressed to a frantic clawing and wood chewing sound. We complained several times to both housekeeping and the office and finally after placing a few useless traps, we convinced them the rat was under the stand alone closet, not inside (which is the only place they had looked till then.) we convinced the team of 6 housekeepers that they had to tilt the cabinet up so we could see under and behind it. Finally they figured out what we'd been trying to tell them, and sure enough out popped a 6inch long brown rat!!! He ran across the room and had about 4 women shrieking and jumping up on the beds while the housekeepers chased it with towels. I am running behind it trying to catch it all on video. Then they corralled it in one corner and the housekeeping manager came along with a broom and started to beat it senseless. I objected loudly - no, I didn't want it in our room, but saw no reason for it to die, especially given we are in a place pursuing a higher consciousness and all... Anyways, the manager assured me it was only knocked out and they took it outside immediately. Pretty good entertainment, really!! Easy for me to say as I have great ear plugs so his chewing and clawing didn't really keep me up at night ;)
