INDIA TRIP
Welcome to India indeed! Customs guy gave me a hard time because he couldn't read my customs form... the 3rd one I filled out because the first two provided to my flight were the wrong forms!! That much writing and pressure doesn't help my poor disabled hand; I've come a really long way but still struggle with hand writing - SIGH!
What a gong show!! I looked online for somewhere to sleep at the airport as I arrived at 2am and flight to Jaipur at 7:15. I had checked online before I left about where I could sleep in the airport; looking for something like the "Refresh Centre" in Osaka, Japan or the airport hotel (inside security) in Singapore. Both offered opportunity to have a nap after/before a long flight plus grab a shower and change of clothes. Sounded like their was a place like that here, just outside of baggage (makes sense). I went out there and the guy said they didn't have nap facilities after all, those are in the domestic terminal (interestingly about a 20 min drive away). Crazy cab drive to the domestic terminal, in some weird old car, seriously 50-60 years old! Couldn't grab a photo, was getting rushed and tip demanded from the guy who showed me to my car. I transferred from International to Domestic as now I have to try to catch up with my tour.
Because I'm here for almost 4 months and have a trekking wardrobe plus a normal wardrobe, I have a LOT of stuff!! You are allowed 1 bag @ 15 kilos on Spice Jet, and my overage fees were 5500INR. Sounds like a lot but really only about $70 cad. Compare that to United who once charged me $100 because my bag was 3 lbs over... my love/hate relationship with United continues.... Anyways, their credit card machine wasn't working so I had to go get cash. OK, fine. Then the security guard gave me a hard time because I am carrying 6 AA batteries. I had to prove that I have something that uses them!! And NO, for all you dirty minds out there, that's not why I'm carrying batteries. I have a small electronic charger that takes AA (where all my others require USB. (I rely on these when my phone starts to die and I have no access to an outlet to plug in). They are fabulous, and when I found one that ran on regular old AAs I thought I had to try it out! Who would have thought I would attract the attention of security??
After all this it's now about 4am and I'm starting to feel the lack of sleep. I have to stay awake though and get on my next plane!
