Today we are off to visit the Great Barrier Reef! We were a little unsure when we arrived at the first dive sight, and let all the others go before eventually being persuaded to actually get in! As it's 'stinger' season - or jelly fish to us non-Aussies - we had to put on our full body, lycra suits . . . I know what an image! Ang said we looked like ninjas lol But on the plus side nearly all of us apart from eyes and nose were covered = no stings!
The first time we were guided around by one of the pro's from on board, which was great as it gave us a chance to get used to the snorkel stuff and for Ang being so close to the fish (remember the Thailand snorkel attempt . . .) And through the concentration WE SAW NEMO!!!
We then went to the other sight and we threw caution to the wind and decided to go in without help. I took a noodle in case and Ang was taking no chances with life jacket and a noodle! Once we were over the beautiful coral there was just no stopping us and we stayed in for 90 mins! I really enjoyed diving down to get a closer look at all the amazing coloured fish and coral, and Ang even warmed to the seeing the fish at a safe distance. The comment of the day had to be from Ang when she also had my noodle so I could dive down, saying she thought she looked like a 4 year old at swimming lessons with all her floatation devices on!
We hired an underwater camera so hopefully managed to get some good pictures and videos for you all to enjoy, but im affraid you will have to wait as we need to find somewhere to take them off disc and put on to memory stick for us, but I definately think they will be worth the wait . . .
We had a yummy lunch, wine and cheese and good sail back, not to mention a really really fab day, and I am very proud of Ang for today x
