Happy Christmas Day! We got up with every intention of seeing sunrise from the lighthouse but it was rainy and the taxi was late so we took our cards, presents and fizz to the beach instead! We opened our gifts and Ang had booked us both a surf lesson! In hindsight my reaction couldve been better but I can say I wasn't too enthusiastic at 5.30 am sat in the rain and watched the record high 6m waves been produced from the cyclone off the east coast of oz! We gave it a go, Ang being better at it than me and I gave up half way through! I was not enjoying being swept back to shore by the crazy waves before even getting out to the waves and the 'can't believe your taking them out in this' comments from the other passing instructors made me fell a little less guilty for just watching for the last little while. Ang however was really good at it and managed to stand up - just like a pro.....I think I have ticked the 'try surfing in Oz box' but I can see Ang having another go.
A bit bizarre but there was a guy also at our surf lesson, with his friends, who was from Peterborough-Paston infact lol Such a small world but enjoyed talking to him about home. We all went for a coffee before we tucked into our pic nic style xmas dinner! The beach was closed due to the strong waves but we found a nice spot looking out over the beach and enjoyed the view and sun with some Dad inspired punch! A 1 dollar bucket and a selection of random liquids =10 litres of unique-ness! The rain clouds loomed so we decided against BBQ and opted for a power nap before skyping home!
It was great to see Mum and Dad opening thier surprise stockings, delivered via Aunty Ellen -thank you ! We both have missed being around family and friends but know these are once in a lifetime memories we will never forget! Thank you all again for our messages, we both had a few tears when reading them, but they were greatly appreciated x
