I'm in the wine growing capital of Australia!
There is nothing here in Berri, but I'm having fun. I came up here a week ago to work as a fruit picker, but it rained for the first 3 days, which is a record for this place so only started on Wednesday. Picked grapes for 2 days and I was the mini bus driver to take all the people from my hostel (Berri Backpackers) to the farm each day as I'm a responsible person! So I worked for farmer Andrew for 2 days and on the 2nd day was a loader, which is the person who throws the big buckets of grapes into the tractor trailer as it moves along. Then on the Friday I was a watermelon catcher and it was bloody hard work! For 8 hours I had huge watermelons thrown at me by massive blokes and put them in to the tractor. At one point I had to rest for a bit, so drove the tractor for 15 mins, which was good. By the end of the day I was bruised and aching all over, but still made it to the Berri pub for the happy hour, but was in bed for about 9.30! On Saturday I went to a party on a houseboat on the River Murray for a BBQ which was really good fun and the water was nice and warm, although I was still a bit stiff from my melon experience. Later that night, I went to the the local club, Vines - what a dive, but I had been told it was awful before I arrived. I went with another 5 people from my hostel and had a very funny night. Sunday we all went bowling and had a team comp then on for pizza later. So far it's been hard work, but good fun at the hostel. In a dorm with 5 others from all over the world and slowly making myself know in this place.
