Bus time again
We hadn't planned much for today as we were leaving later on to get the bus to Palenke, so when we got up for breakfast we were surprisd to see so much activity in the hostel. It turns out that there is a free concert on in the Zocalo this evening and people are heading there from 12ish onwards to be part of the expected 200,000 crowd gathering to see Paul McCartney!! Typical for us that we are leaving but even more annoying is that the day after we fly to Puerto Rico there is a Los Van Van concert (not free) which we would have loved to have gone to, it seems they are chasing us as they came to Bogota a week after we left and to Cuba shortly after we were there too...very frustrating! So while everyone else was getting excited we got our bags packed and chatted to the Finnish guy who although just a member of staff, seems to pretty much run the hostel and is even doing a 23hr shift so everyone else can go to the concert!! We went to the supermarket at 3 to get some food for the journey and after making our sandwiches back at the hostel made our way to the Metro for 4 o'clock where we found an enormous queue for the ticket office and decided we had to do something or we wouldn't make it to our bus on time. I went to a lady near the front of the queue and putting on my sweetest face asked if she would buy 2 tickets for me when she bought her own. She did as I asked and we were very grateful, then managing to get on the Metro straight away, despite our fears of rush hour, to the TAPO bus terminal where we bought our tickets before sitting down to wait. We were quite impressed with the airport style check in of bags and when we went to get on the bus were given samples of shampoo to take with us, very odd but we weren't going to refuse them! Once on the bus however we were disappointed to find that the seats were very close together and so resulted in a rather uncomfortable night with the seats in front hard against our knees, the drivers music louder than the film that was playing (in Spanish without subtitles) and the air con turned up so much it was dripping onto Andy!
