More Dancing.
We were up at our usual time of around 9am for breakfast once again. We had decided the previous day that as we weren't sure if the ruins would be open on Mondays we would go for a look around
Coyoacan today and leave the ruins for tomorrow. With this in mind we went to catch the metro which took around 45 mins to reach Coyocan station. We had assumed that the metro would drop us off in or near the main square but to our annoyance it didn't. In addition to this we didn't have a map of the area since the one we got from the tourist information didn't cover this area and although there was a 'map' in the metro station it provided no useful info whatsoever. The result of this was that we spent a good few hours wandering around aimlessly looking for the main plaza we had intended to see to no avail. We instead ended up looking around a rather flash shopping centre where we couldn't afford to buy anything. We soon decided that wandering around aimlessly was pointless and decided to return to the hostel where we got changed and chilled for a little while. Very soon however it was time to leave again as we had picked up a flyer on friday which suggested that there was a salsa lesson on tonight. This time we succeed in finding La Maraka with no wrong turns arriving in plenty of time for the start of the lesson. We paid our entrance and the teachers soon started with a proper warm up, including some body movement and stretching. The warm up took around 30 mins and after they split into 4 levels for the remaining hour and a half class. Not knowing where to go at this point we asked the teachers and after a short dance with us they put us in the top level. As it turned out we had two lessons of around 45 mins each because one of the teachers was late. We started being taught by a largish man who was covering the beginners as well. Despite a rather slow start he eventually taught us a nice flowing routine with a couple of unusual moves in it. The top group then split once more into those who are part of their student group who went to rehearse their routine and the 5 of us who remained were then taught a routine by the new teacher who had been late. He couldn't be more different from the first guy as he was tiny and very skinny, the quality of his lesson however was equally as high if not better and it was interesting that he taught us moves with lots of arm movement. It was noticeable that the teachers taught us routines which clearly suit their own build and we thus had 2 completely different lessons, I wonder if this is consistent throughout their lessons. The lesson ran over the 2 hours allocated by quite some time but of course we weren't complaining and eventually returned to the hostel much happier with the day than when we left. It was almost 11 when we got back but we still managed to cut my hair, shower and cook dinner before collapsing into bed around 2.
