Part 2 of 2
Now we are loving it again in the surprising nice Island of Penang.
We have been here now for 4 nights with only one more to go then we are off again to our next destination. Again the journey from one Island to another was by boat and a very fancy one as well. We had pre-booked our hotel again this time from a website we had not used before, we stumbled across a hotel called the Mingood and it really is. Not so expensive, all the mod cons you need and with a free breakfast thrown in as well we have really landed on our feet. We started to plan the things we wanted to do the moment the bedroom door slammed shut. Saturday was spent walking round the old historic sites of the capital Georgetown. Georgetown is a world heritage site and was once ruled by the British and in some ways it is like being back at home just warmer. They drive on the same side as we do, dial 999 for the police, road signs are the same and all in English to. We had a good scout round an old fort, went to the museum and generally learnt a lot about how live was on the island under the British. Sunday was the Komtar tower, the tallest on Penang where we managed to get very good seats at the cinema for an English film and it was only a quid each. Back to the hotel for the F! (Go Jenson, we will be shouting for you next weekend) Andy B is still trying to learn the rules but he is getting there slowly. Monday was to Penang hill to have a ride on the 2nd tallest funicular railway in the world, the tallest is in Hong Kong. Where the main hill is called Strawberry hill and was cleared of tree by the British for the purpose of growing strawberries. We thought it very suitable to have a strawberry cream tea which was very nice indeed. As the cinema was such good value we decided to give it another go in the afternoon and were scared witless by the film we watched. Tuesday (today) we set of to the War Museum to learn how live was on the Island during the 2nd world war with the Japanese occupation. After a very long 90 minute bus ride we made it to the bottom of the hill which we then had to climb to get to the entrance (independent travel is such fun) we were sweating like pigs as we made our way round. There were tunnels to go in and ladders to climb and banks to climb up and down as well as the more serious stuff to look at as well. Andy B was just walking to go look at a cannon outpost when he came flying back shouting, when I had calmed him it turned out it was someone else's turn to have a drama. Andy had been chased by a snake, now they had got signs up saying beware of snakes, ants and eagles (strange mix), but it the middle of the day you don't expect it. It did but a small downer on the day but we still went round but with our eyes very much open. I'm sure as the days go on I will learn more about the snake, how big it was, did it have fangs etc. As soon as I know I will of course update it on here. But Chris he is fine except his hair is getting longer and needs cutting.
Till next time in Kuala Lumpur, its love from us both and we will leave us with this thought. If you are going away and the place you are going has Pattaya in it, don't go!!!!
