Another exciting update for all you blog readers.
We have now been to, walked round and got very wet in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. We arrived on an Air Asia flight from the island of Penang and got a shuttle to the hotel which we know was going to be packed as it was the F1 weekend. On check in we had been upgraded to a club room with all the benefits of the club lounge with free drinks, snacks and papers. It even had free internet when it was working. This was all great until we found out on the last day it had been a mistake and it was only the room that had been upgraded and we shouldn't have used the facilities offered. Well after a lot of shouting by me and going to speak with management at reception they did offer to wave the fees we had racked up due to them giving us wrong information, so it was a minor victory for us but it wasn't as sweet as it should have been and it did leave a sour taste in my mouth about the hotel so Hotel Citrus next time check your facts first and you might found your staff get a little less of a hard time from your customers!!
The city it's self was a pleasant surprise, with some pavements and the odd zebra crossing getting around on foot was not a bad way to see the city, the humidity at 90% however was a different story. The six nights we spent in the capital was filled mostly by walking round the biggest shopping centres in South east Asia, eating tons of junk food and a bit of sight seeing. The main reason was for the F1 and that was two very full days.
The Petronas towers and the Kl tower are the tallest buildings in the region and some of the tallest in the world, we had a trip up them both and fingers crossed took some good photos which when we find a PC that works sightly faster than a snail we will up load them. The hotel room had a great view of the twin towers and we got it see it morning, noon and night, but it isn't a sight you could get bored of and even the staff had a quick glance when passing. The twin towers housed a big science museum as well as the normal shops and restaurants you would find in the average office block. The museum told the story of the Petronas petrol giant.
The F1 at Sepang international circuit was certainly different to what I excepted and on the Saturday less busy than we thought. The noise was intense and we definately used the ear plugs we were thankful of taking. The hill stand we had booked had great views of most of the track with the exception of the pit straight. The giant TV screen was ok and we followed the qualifying with the help of the binoculars we had bought in Penang. The return journey back to the city however was a different matter all together. The race day got us to the circuit in plenty of time and we had a plan that would make the race more enjoyable for us both, we decided to buy two pairs of headsets for the race commentary which to my delight was done by the BBC so it really was like seeing it on the TV. Now in Malaysia they are famous for the storms they have and we felt the full force of them on both the Saturday and Sunday, they were both so bad that the Sunday resulted in me sitting it a puddle that made me look like I had wet myself, we both broke our shoes after getting stuck in the mud which in some places came well up your calf muscle. Having the race stopped after 32 laps was gutting as we were both keeping everything crossed for a Jenson victory, but I guess half points is better than none. The Malaysians should also be famous for pushing in, to get the buses back to the main pick up area was like bing in a fight, you literally had to push and shove to get on, if you didn't you would be there till the following year. 120,000 people and about 20 buses just doesn't work. We show men jumping in front of them in order to get them to stop and then have a fight to get on. Saturday we were rubbish at the fight but on the Sunday after being rained on all afternoon I for one was well ready for a fight and enjoyed getting some revenge on the people who pushed me the day before. All in all the F1 was great and we both said that yes we would definately go again.
Till next time as I can't type anymore as ,my eyes are nearly shut and my spelling has gone to pot again. The next update will be Genting Highlands and the largest hotel in the world 6118 bedrooms.
Love from us both etc xx
