We were well and truly in the Northern Territory! We pulled into the Boab caravan park and set up our site.
A nice relaxing day was needed as the heat was just insane! I have never been so hot for so long! The air-con was going all day and all night with no rest. Thank goodness there was a pool at the park!
We decided to put Charli in the kennels again for about 2 weeks while we did the national parks and Darwin. Andy called the kennels and they were closed for holidays! nooo!! So he then rang the vet that said they would be happy enough to take her. Yay! So we dropped her off and went to the info centre.
We went for a drive to the beautiful Edith Falls which was about a 30 min drive out of Katherine. We walked down to the water and had a swim. There are signs everywhere saying that it is a croc controlled area, meaning that they have traps etc to prevent the salties coming into the swimming area. However, I was still nervous about it! The falls were nice but I cant imagine how stunning they would be in the wet season!
That nice we headed to the Katherine Gorge for a sunset dinner cruise. Yes we splurged but we hadn't done anything like that for a while. We hopped on the first boat at 4:30pm and travelled down the first gorge. The Katherine Gorge is made up of 13 gorges and this cruise took us through the first 2. It was soooooo hot but it was okay while we were moving as it made a little breeze. The gorge was stunning with so many colours within the rocks. There was also a lot of trees and little beaches which I didn't expect. We got off after the first gorge to walk to the second one. On the way we saw some Aboriginal Rock Art that was pretty cool! There were also many information information boards explaining the traditional uses of many of the trees, plants and rocks found in the gorge. It was about a 400m walk until we reached another boat. We had a look through the second gorge. At this point the sun was getting lower in the sky and the colours on the rocks when the sun hit them were fabulous! We took so many photos but obviously you can't capture what it was really like.
When we got back to the first gorge, there was a beautiful boat set up with tables, candles, flowers and champagne! We got on and were taking to our table. We had a lovely evening with another couple Mary and Bob who shouted us a drink each as we needed bring cash! duh!! We had an antipasto platter and crocodile bisque for entree, barra or streak for main and a creme brulee for dessert. We drove up and down the gorge sipping champagne and watching the sunset. It was beautiful, but (and there's always a but) it was SO BLOODY HOT!! We stopped moving during main course and we were sticking to the seats and drenched with sweat! eww, I know, but a fan or two would have work wonders! hehe
Overall it was a beautiful night which we really enjoyed. Next stop, Litchfield National Park!
