3:30am wake up; left at 4am to catch the flight to Juliaca. Great view of the Andes on the flight and the snow capped mountains. At Juliaca there was a band playing whilst we waited for our luggage - should be mandatory in all airports! An hour's bus ride took us to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca, 3800 meters above sea level (as a comparison, Snowdon is 1085 meters high). We both started suffering from altitude sickness, especially as our room was on the third floor (highest of course!) of the hotel; it was an absolute killer getting up the stairs! Disoreientation and headaches were our chosen sympomtons; but later just going down three flights of stairs we felt much better! Went out for a meal with most of the group and had Alpaca (and it didn't taste like chicken!).
