Andy and Cate Around the World in 80 Days
Happy Birthday Dad
You'll all be pleased to hear that today I managed to get into the hospital, see some doctors and even managed to get into theatre. So much for a holiday! Was in theatre till 8pm though had a hefty 4 hour lunch break.
Everything here is slow. Even emergencies can't induce hurriedness. Well maybe that's a little harsh, things are just a little different here. We read an article in the TnT Guardian saying that a couple of nurses had been sacked and strike action was going to take place. The reason they got sacked? Complained about stray dogs in radiology! Definate grounds for termination of contract I think. They run all over this place and they all have huge nipples. I'm trying to get a photo but so far no luck!
As for anaesthetics, its all fairly similar to the UK, Sarah (who used to be a theatre nurse) says the hospital is similar to an English hospital, just 20 years ago. Having said that the equipment is up to date but the practices aren't. Nurses still wear silly hats and they have sticky mats on the floor before you walk into wards etc. They also seem to run out of all the drugs they want and make do with others.
In summary nobody rushes everyone complains because they don't have the stuff they need and there are wild dogs crawling through departments. Oh and don't drink the water, bats and cockroaches apparently!
