What a night! We went out to dinner with our friends from the hostel, then to Gelato (again) and by that time it was about 1 am. We hadn't booked a hostel because we had to leave at 4 am, but didn't really have a plan as to what we were going to do. We went back to the hostel to get our packs, thinking we'd walk to the vatican and the monuments to see them at night. But...our beds in the hostel were still empty so we just slept there and snuck out in the morning to catch our bus to the airport.
Oh RyanAir.. we had tickets to Venice for 15 euro each! However, RyanAir limits your luggage to 10 Kilos and it has to fit in a ridiculously small test box before they let it go on the plane, or you have to pay 30 euro to 'check it' which really means carrying it on the plane.
We were both overweight and oversized, no doubt about that. My pockets were stuffed with anything and everything-- Jeffs sandals, my book, chargers, padlock, hat, and I was wearing 2 coats and my cycling jacket too. I had my ticket folder in a little backpack and when we got to the gate she said I had to fit it all inside that.
By the Grace of God, as I was putting that into my pack (and under my coat) the scale broke. In her frustration, the lady didn't even look at us and let us pass.
We were feeling pretty good then but we weren't on the plane yet, that went smoothly too though, the ticket taker was talking to her coworker and didn't even look either. That was a relief!
We got to Venice tired, but we made it. A little longer all total then the train I think, but that's ok.
