We left Irene and Goff's on Sunday with Caroline and drove the 200km to Melbourne, where we are going to be staying with Caroline and her children Sarah, Laura and Ryan in their home in the suburb of Watsonia.
On the journey we had a bit of a guided tour to see where the family used to farm when the first moved to the Victoria area. We then went to Geelong and had a walk along the bay and the sun came out so we had an ice cream (any excuse!). Geelong bay was quite new and modern with swimming areas marked out in the bay, parks and a beach, there were also loads of funny statues dotted around everywhere!
We then headed on to Melbourne to have a quick drive through the city centre, before heading home to meet the children. We really like Melbourne it has some beautiful buildings and seems to have a really nice vibe about it and there is loads we want to see and do while we are staying here.
Sarah, Laura and Ryan are all great and we are getting along really well and Caroline has kindly said we can stay with them for a while so we don't have to worry about finding somewhere to rent just yet! We will see how long they can put up with us! We had a barbie (BBQ) for dinner, the first of many which we are really happy about! We also tried some kangeroo steaks which we thought were really good!
This week has mainly been spent job hunting! Very boring! Especially because we don't really want to work! We have been to recruitment consultants, on the internet, through papers and jumping on the train to various interviews! Caroline's house is in a great location for this as it is a 10 minute walk to the train station which takes you right into the City Centre in 30 minutes!
The other great thing about Caroline's house is its location, it is close enough to the city for us to go in as much as we want but far enough away so we don't spend all our money! Also there is a big bush park area behind the houses and there are loads of kangeroos in there, we went kangeroo spotting the other night and some of them were huge! Also from the tree in the garden you can actually see Melbourne City Centre on a clear day!
Finally today Andrew got a job working for Bayside City Council in Sandringham, which is South of Melbourne City Centre. He will be earning as much as we had planned to earn between us!! Which means the pressure is off me and I can continue to be a lady of leisure for a bit longer! He will be working as a traffic engineer, same as he did at Herefordshire Council - its unbelievable!
This weekend is The Melbourne Cup, so it is like a long bank holiday weekend and we are planning to have lots of fun, sightseeing and celebrating before Andrew starts work on Wednesday!
Lots of Love
Sarah and Andrew xxxx
