Last Saturday was Australia Day, a big public holiday over here. We celebrated by having a traditional Ozzie style BBQ at Debbie and Grants. Our Irish mates (Denise and Rob) came over as well as some of Debbie and Grants mates. We arrived in Cairns on Tuesday after our last bus ride with Greyhound and were met by Debbie and Grant at the bus station.We met Debbie and Grant in Peru when we did the Inca Trail and they are kindly putting us up for the week while we explore Cairns.It is so nice staying at their house, which is so beautiful, right by Clifton Beach, about 20 mins out of Cairns. We arrived here mid afternoon on Saturday, on a ferry from Townsville.The weather seemed better than it had been for a while, although very humid indeed and when we got to our dorm we realized that we were in for some hot, sticky nights as there were too many people per dorm and no air con!! We had a complete nightmare getting from Hervey Bay to Airlie Beach, due to heavy rain the roads were completely flooded and the Greyhound buses we are travelling on were only going as far as Mackay which is about 2 hours from Airlie Beach.So we had to get a minibus taxi with a group of others from Mackay to get to Airlie Beach - not great for the budget, but we had already paid for our accommodation and sailing trip from Airlie Beach so we had to get there!
