Not only had we decided to have a night out in Queenstown in order to do this we had to camp in the city centre which meant .... wait for it .... electric hook up and on site showers! Whoop whoop whooooooop!!!!
We got to the site bang on 12 o'clock so we could charge everything that needed it (so basically every electrical item we had with a battery), we showered and I actually dried and straightened my hair for the first time in months! We had a few beers and then headed into town at about 3pm as we were watching the Mayweather v Pacquiao fight. The bar was packed already so we took the last couple of seats and got the pitcher of beer in (the first of many).
After the fight we wanted to find a decent bar to go in so I thought it would be a good idea to go into a bar and ask them where we should go, it seemed logical to me but Casson thought it was ridiculous asking in a bar as they obviously want you to drink there and not somewhere else. He was wrong, it's not as if the girl behind the bar owns it, it was clearly dead and she had no problem recommending somewhere. According to Casson I have no shame!
The bar we went in served steins of lager that were bigger than my head! We were offered a pizza but we said no as we were going to eat when we got in, then she said it was free, whole different perspective now, no quickly turned to "yes please". We need bars like this in the UK.
In the end we rolled home at about midnight where I then decided it would be a good idea to cook sausage, mash and gravy, it tasted good as food always does after a skinful but my god I made a mess that we woke up to in the morning. North End were playing that night so we stayed up so Casson could get the results off the internet.
We both felt fine the next day so we cleaned up the mess from our midnight feast (think gravy and cornflour everywhere) and were on our way to Milford Sound by lunchtime. Unfortunately about an hour into the drive Larry lightweight struck again and I had to pull over so Casson could sleep off his hangover! Apparently he did the same for me after our night in Woodstock but I beg to differ, I had a migraine not a hangover :-)
General points
1) it was so good to have a shower that wasn't part of a petrol station or random place
2) will we ever learn moderation when it comes beer?
3) this must be the first time I've ever gone out drinking at night wearing converse and a fleece!
