Thought it was time to kick off the blog with our first entry. We got to Gatwick in plenty of time for our flight, checked in and did what any average Brit does at the airport .... hit the bar! This is when it all started to go wrong.

There was an emergency landing at Gatwick so all the runways closed and our incoming plane couldn't land and was diverted to Stanstead. We were told we were all being sent by bus to Stanstead so we had to collect our luggage and were herded back to the check in desks to wait for the busses to arrive and then 2 hours later we were told Stanstead was at capacity so we were staying put! Cue re checking our bags, going through security again and hitting the golden arches with our free food vouchers.

By the time we reached Madrid it was 2am and we'd missed our connecting flight so we were put up in a hotel for the night along with about 20 other people. They'd put food on for everyone and as neither of us like to turn down a free meal we found ourselves eating fishfingers, chips and meatballs with a beer at 4am on the Tuesday morning!

The next day we made the most of the day in Madrid and did some sightseeing as our flight wasn't till 23.55 that night.
