The morning after the proposal we decided we needed to celebrate so what else do you do when you're by the coast? You get fish and chips of course! We sat in the van eating them watching the waves come crashing in (it was pretty windy)
Afterwards it was time to get back on the road so we headed to Hokitika Gorge, it was raining a bit when we got there but we decided to go and walk round anyway. The Gorge is supposed to be an amazing blue colour but because of all the rain it was a milky grey colour instead and as we were heading back to the van the heavens opened and the rain was torrential!
We'd found a pub in a place called Woodstock that allowed campervans to stay in their car park overnight so we decided to head there so we could celebrate properly and both of us could have a drink. What we hadn't bargained on was the 21st birthday party that was happening that night and the amount of people sporting a mullet like hairstyle (we use the term "style" loosely). It was like we'd stepped back in time and were partying with the hillbillies! But as the saying goes "if you can't beat em, join em" so we got straight on it.
As we were leaving at about midnight one of the guys we'd been chatting to told us to go and see the glow worms up the road, we almost didn't bother as we'd had a few by this point but we decided to go. About 5 minutes up the road there was an opening into what looked like a cave entrance, you walked through and into what looked like a grotto. The walls were all twinkling with 1000's of glow worms, neither of us had ever seen them before, it was unbelievable.
General points
1) mullets weren't a good look years ago, they're still not
2) We hope it stops raining!
