Can't quite believe I'm in oz land! It's a strange thought knowing I have never been as far away from home as I am now. Though somehow the flight time has made me realise that it's actually a pretty small world after all, and in no more than 24 hours you could be anywhere you want to be...
I arrived the morning of the 19th to Melbourne Airport. Could tell I was a teensy bit tired as I attempted to brush my teeth without taking the brush cover off and a variety of other dopey moments too, definitely a malteaser... Brown on the outside, blonde on the inside! To my lovely surprise I was met at the airport by a whole bunch of my family - the lovely Carol, handsome Doug, natural-daddy Chris, beautiful Casey and of course my new little cousin, the adorable Spike! They have taken me under their wing and I will be spending the first few days of my trip having a good ol' catch up with the crazy bunch :) I spent most of the first day chilling, catching up on sleep in my luxurious bedroom. Treated to a lovely roast in the evening courtesy of carol (possibly my last one in a long time so I tried to savour it!! Going to miss home cooking....)
Gorgeous weather the next morning so we headed down to Frankston bay, a gorgeous beachfront. Trying to get used to the Aussie lingo as the hunt for 'thongs' went underway thanks to my rubbishy flipflops dying after less than a day... No luck, but still a lovely little town. Had a spot of lunch in a cafe that overlooked the beach - picture perfect!! Think I'm starting to get used to it here....
After being quite impressed with the prices of clothes in frankston, I was feeling a little more optimistic about the prices of things here. That soon changed in the local supermarket.... Even the local produce seems extortionately priced compared to England! £1.20 for one creme egg, I don't think so....
Coincidentally a very good friend of mine happened to be on her last night in Melbourne that evening so I navigated my way in to dandenong train station before we headed in to the centre of Melbourne for the later part of the evening. Not how I expected but first impressions were a really lovely but busy city - at 11pm the square was still full of people. A big thank you to the bus driver who got me home and told me where to get off, I love how friendly everyone is here... Makes a change from the miserable sods in the uk! Amy x
