Heya,
Sorry that i have not updated this for a while. I have been busy job hunting and doing other fun things since my last blog. So I have a few weeks to catch up on....
So having met a friend, Toni, from Sydney at the Station (see picture). Its massive. I always manage to get lost and end up on the wrong platform or heading the wrong way on a train/tram. We went to the pub opposite to catch up and play cards. One of her friends was also their that she met on the Oz experience Bus, Bobby. So i learnt how to play s*** head and drank beer. Booby's friend Travis met us and we all arranged to go for $1 pots later that evening. Which is dam cheap about 75p for half a beer. Headed to St Kilda with Toni so that she could put her backpack in the hostel and I could use the toilet. Lol. Headed back in to town to meet the others for a bite to eat - we ordered lots of snacky things and I was told you could eat a prawn with its head and shell still on. I was then challenged to do this. Not one to let down a challenge I put it in my mouth and chewed and chewed and chewed, but then spat out. It wasnt very nice and not an experience I would like to repeat. Walked for miles to find the $1 pot place and then queued for 45 mins to get in. Luckily the guys were pretty cool so chatted to them. Once in we consumed jugs for $4.50. The girls ordered a jug each and the boys shared one! A few jugs later it was decided that skinny dipping might be fun. So off we went skinny dipping. It was a good end to a great night.
Travis and I exchanged numbers and planned to meet up later in the week. We went to the Eureka Skydeck which had panoramic views of Melbourne. A bit like the London Eye. Was amazing to see how big and different the city looked from up high. We went out for a nice dinner afterwards. Another fun night.
On the Friday I went to see a band with Sophie and Co. It was raining so hard that roads and tram lines and train lines were flooded, it made getting around the city hard. In the end a taxi took us there. The band were pretty cool and were basically instrumental. It was an expensive night home for me as the taxi driver charged me a stupid amount of money to go 15 mins. I guess they can tell that I am english and tooks me the long way around.
As I had mentioned to Travis that I wanted to go to the immigration museum we arranged to do that together on the Tuesday as he had also wanted to do it. It was sooo boring we quickly looked around it and left. Not an experience to be repeated.
I had been job hunting for most of the week and had a meeting with Robert Walters on the Wednesday. The ladies I met seemed really nice but they have yet to find me work. They advised me to go shopping for a suit and some work trousers. So I spent the afternoon spending money I didn't have.
On the Thursday, Job Capital rang me and advised they had a position to start on the Friday for a week (luckily i brought the clothes). After getting seriously lost in Melbourne I eventually found the place and started work. I had to call Pest Controllers and ensure the details we held on the system were correct. Easy job and pretty good money have been paid about $150 for a day. This lasted up until the following Wednesday. As today is Friday I am back to being a jobless bum.
At the weekend, Travis and I went to Ballarat. We went to the old Gold Town. It was a lovely place but my camera died. We watched gold being poured, and around the Gold Museum. It was a fun day until I realised that I had misread the train timetable and we couldn't get back. Not all bad those as we checked into a hotel that had a bath. I had the hottest bath ever and nearly passed out. Had to lie under the air conditioning unit to cool down. We headed home the next day after a breakfast of scrambled eggs and salmon. Yummy.
So this week I worked for a few days and have been looking for temp jobs. Hopefully something will come up soon as I am seriously poor at the moment. I have a meeting with a recruitment company tomorrow. Think I am pretty much registered at all of them now. Hays have not even contacted me, may have to get Emm, Jamie or Paula to send my CV on my behalf. They might take notice then!!!! Reed contacted me and oddly enough the lady was from Southampton as well, so we chatted about what its like now as she has not been back for a while. She said as a fellow Southamptoner she will give me first refusal if any jobs come up.
Sorry that it was soo long, ill try to update more frequently. I am off to meet Yalinie, an old friend from Southampton who is studying out here.
Take care.
Lots of Love Amy x x x x x x
