Hi everyone!!
We finally made it to Kanchanaburi, and have all recovered from sickness! After the 2 day trek all 3 of us came down with tummy bugs (15 out of 19 on the trek came down with them!), but have had lots of sleep (some more than others - Kat with her 17 hours!) and are feeling fine once more.
On the first day in Kanchanaburi we had a walk around the town - mainly to find a restaurant that served western food, if we see another pad thai we will scream (as this is what made us all ill in the first place :S). The second day was fun packed, with a trip to the safari park in the morning and a visit to the Erawan waterfalls in the afternoon. The safari park was a great experience as we all got to touch tigers and have photos with them, plus a drive through in a bus where we fed various animals - deer, giraffes, zebra, lions etc. The giraffes were a particular highlight as the tour guide mentioned that the baby ones sometimes stick their heads through the windows. However they did not tell us that the bigger ones do that too! At one point there were about 6 of them in the bus, Kat was terrified. She seems to have a radar for things she is scared of, inparticular rats - she can spot them before they even make an appearance! We also went to an elephant show and a crocodile show. The elephants were incredible, they were walking on two feet and balancing on beams - very like Dumbo!! Amy also had an elephant 'massage' which involved lying down and the elephant using its foot to rub her stomach - thank god they were well trained!!!! All photos from this we PROMISE will be up shortly - we have been trying for the past two days to upload but this site is carrying out essential maintainance apparently! Typical! We also have some videos from the elephant show which i am sure you will all be amazed by like we were. Again, down for maintainance at the moment.
The waterfalls were amazing also...7 of them in total which you can swim in. The best was the fourth one where you could climb up the rocks and slide in! The fish gave you interesting 'pedicures' too. The waterfalls were also where we got our photos taken randomly by north eastern thai people, apparently they have never seen white tourists before and were fascinated! The bad thing was that there was about 100 of them, and they were all men.
When we got back to the appartment we had an incident with a cockroach. It was sitting on Amys bed - not nice! We then had a mission of trying to catch the critter, before Clare finally succeeded. We named him Trevor.
Anyway, I hope you are all well......its great reading all your messages so keep them coming!
Also, for Clares Dad/Mum/Sister she says please can you find out the phone number she emailed, as she is unable to use her phonecards without it - Thanks :)
We will update again soon - off to Koh Phangan tonight to the Full Moon Party, should be a bit crazy!
Lots of Love, Amy and Clare X x x
