So, we are still here in Dubbo, and yesterday was our most exciting day yet, we went to the Zoo!! Oh yes, up early, washed, packed, off to the Zoo. When we got there we managed to wangle our way in with our ''student cards'' which got us such a massive discount we could afford bikes!! So we headed off to the bike shed and met ''Geoff''. He lived in England until he was 2. And likes Dubbo. He got us 2 lovely yellow bikes, and snazzy sports helmets and a basket each to carry our belongings in. So off we went, free to explore the wilderness on our bikes!!
It all started off well, both of us remembered how to pedal so we headed off down a hill, now, it was around this time we made the observation that there were no hand breaks on this bike, which lead to lots of screaming // shouting. I decided to do the ''leap'' manoeuvre, and so naturally I leapt off the bike whilst going at top speed, I was un-harmed however my faithful companion Sarah was speeding off in to the distance dragging her feet on the floor. When we both eventually stopped we said many ''words'' about the stupid Ozzies who built bikes with breaks, especially in a place with so many hills!! Anyway, around now a tour bus approached us, after seeing my leap they must have been fairly amused. They informed us we were lost and had to go back up the hill. WONDERFUL. Anyway, we eventually found the tour and off we went, saw giraffes, hyenas, and then it was time for the Rhinos. Now, by this time we were feeling more confident on the bikes and so were going quite fast, little did we know there was a hill down to the rhinos and a very abrupt stop at the bottom. Sarah screamed and dug her heels in, managing to stop. Now I was wearing flip flops, so naturally was a little less graceful, I cut the end of my toe, which knowing my luck will now get horribly infected with some Zoo disease. We soon recovered and headed on….
Around now I got bored of pedalling, so I decided to see how long I could back pedal for without falling off. Now, very strangely, when I back pedalled nothing happened, infact, it seemed to slow me down. Oh Genius, the break is a back pedal, only the Ozzies could have thought up such wonderful design….Shame ''Geoff'' didn't tell us about this.
After some more cursing, we continued our tour of the zoo, seeing the tapiers, which are now my 2nd favourite animal, and the elephants, which are now my 1st favourite animal. And some other animals, all of which we have seen a million times with all the Zoo's we have been too since leaving home!! We had a pit stop, or a few pit stops, and about 3 hours later our journey was over, and we were almost unharmed, apart from my toe, which is definitely going to fall off. We headed home and watched some interesting Ozzie films. All is well in Dubbo Tonight…..
I feel I should also inform you of a hilarious event that took place about 10pm on Monday evening. I was all tucked up in bed ready for sleep, and Sarah got in to bed too (we are sharing due to the fact the room with the double bed allowed me to be more messy than the room with 2 singles!!) Anyway. Just as I was about to fall asleep my dear friend started screaming and jumped on to all fours and started shaking her head around like a mental patient. I though she has had a breakdown, naturally, so I ran out of the room. She followed and despite the fact she was speaking in tongues I managed to decipher that she was convinced there was something on her head. I didn't have my glasses on so being in a venerable position of semi-blindness I refused to look. Instead I called Glen, whom thought we were having some sort of pillow fight, to come and check the room for us!! He found the culprit, the biggest and most disgusting beetle I have ever laid eyes on!! After Sarah had calmed down and I had stopped crying with laughter we got back in to bed. At this point Sarah screamed again, only this time the bug was infact just a penny that we had dropped on the bed. And then she screamed again, only this time it was just a piece of elastic that touched her arm. Easy mistakes to make. Its probably not as funny for you as it is for me, however it was the most amusing thing I have seen for my whole duration in Dubbo. Thank you Sarah. I love you.
Hope you are all well!!
