After being the least organised we had been so far for a flight we managed to make it just fine and were on our way to Bangkok. (Luckily neither of us get stressed out). We were feeling very unprepared for Thailand, mainly because we are getting scared about how quickly time is going by, so on the flight we hyped ourselves up to get ready for the craziness that would be Khao San Road. We arrived in a taxi and saw the madness of the busiest and most touristy road in the capital, it was also where we were staying and known for its party atmosphere! Our hotel was lovely and even had a pool so we could top up the fading tan, but first up was lunch and our first taste of Pad Thai (noodles) from the street stall which were very tasty! Next another first for us and our very own tuk-tuk drive to the royal temple which was closed as it was a sunday but still we walked around and took some pictures of the buildings surrounding it. It was soon our first night in Bangkok and we stayed on Khao San Road ate some nice Thai curry, and watched all the people selling everything including all sorts of fried bugs whilst having our Chang as we are now beer drinkers!
Today was a busy day so we made the most of our breakfast and then headed to MBK, the shopping mall with 5 floors selling all sorts of fake or discounted designer goods. We were in heaven but very stressed going around debating what to buy, as we would have to carry it around for the rest of our trip. Added to this was the fact you have to barter with every price, which neither of us like doing but despite this we still bought a fair few items, probably too many already. Exhausted we loaded up with a very nice chicken kebab and then headed to Patpong for a night market where we both bought more...we were out of control clearly. Needing a rest we calmed down by watching a ping pong show, which was very interesting thats all we should probably say about that!!! Our last day in Bangkok was spent organising our trip up north to Chiang Mai later that evening. So after getting a taxi, a skytrain and a local bus we found the bus terminal and bought our ticket for the night bus, our first of many in Asia. Then we made the most of our pool before filling up on Pad Thai ready for our 10 hour journey through the night.
As we expected Bangkok was hectic but we enjoyed it, we are now ready for the North of Thailand and less tourists!
Lots of love Amy and Megs xxxxxxxxxxx
