A very hectic few days!!
We finished off Kathmandu by going to a festival with some people from the hostel where we witnessed a real life goddess this was manic people filled the streets. We made friends with a Dutch guy and ended up planning to share a taxi. Another friend we got chatting to also showed us a brilliant cake shop where we indulged in a piece which took me home for the two minutes it took me to eat it!! It's the first sweet thing in so long!! Walking around Kathmandu on our last day we took in the bustling streets for the last time, we are sad we never got to do a trek and hope to maybe return in the future to get to base camp at least!! A baby calf lay in the street dying which really upset me and in a way made me excited to leave for a country where I wouldn't witness so much suffering. We had an early night ready to leave Kathmandu for Bangkok at 6am!! Our flight seemed to take forever. We got to Bangkok at 6pm where we got a taxi to our really nice new hostel. We found a small Sandwhich bar where we filled our boots being so hungry from having nothing but Indian plane food....yuck!! And then showered and got into our comfy bed which we shared a room with 12 other people.
Bangkok had us now and we were excited to explore. We headed to khoa San road which is where backpackers head where we shopped and had our first proper Thai meal....noodles. We ventured about most of the day and then went for a night out on the strip. It felt like a holiday resort in Europe people pulling us in offering drinks etc. ed tried a dried scorpion which was interesting, we weren't keen on this drinking scene but we gathered we are in Bangkok for one time only and started to drink the night away watching the different people that walked past on the hectic backpacker street.
The next day we showered had some breakfast before heading to the pier where we caught a ferry down the river. We went and visited the golden palace, the leaning Buddha and war Arun ruin which was nice. The buildings are amazing and pictures of their royal family lace the streets in Bangkok. Whilst travelling about we saw a few lady boys one of which helped us get on the right bus to the famous weekend markets of Bangkok. We spent all day traipsing around a market the size of Bedford it was incredible. Puppies were on sale which was sad!! We were told people come to Bangkok with the clothes on their back and then visit this market to buy everything and anything. Ed got himself some dr dre headphones which are usually £300 for £2.50!!!
Once we got back to the hostel we got chatting to a new boy from Southampton England and ended up going out for dinner together and hitting the strip again. We watched the Liverpool game and found out we had a lot in common. The night went on and when leaving the bar we were approached to go to a ping pong show. We bartered with the tuc tuc man and decided hell yeah it's something to tick off the bucket list. We were driven across Bangkok in this crazy tuc tuc where I swear we nearly lost our lives. We made it to a dark alley where we then entered a dark room I won't say much more apart from never again. It was an experience and one I definitely will not forget. These poor women perform shows up to 10 times a night. We headed back after and managed to get an hours sleep before waking up to get a taxi to the airport to fly to Hanoi Vietnam.
We were so tired that we both don't remember the plane taking off or landing we just blinked and we were in Vietnam!! We spent the day exploring Hanoi where we went to the lake and visited the pagoda. We ventured around yet more markets before relaxing in our new hostel. This hostel is very lively and we are planning to book a couple of excursions with them to take us through most of Vietnam. It has been an exhausting few days and we are both so excited to sleep.
We sat up having a few drinks before getting some much needed sleep. We aim to join an orientation walk in the morning to see more of the city. Vietnams streets are filled with mopeds and we have been advised to be careful of our bags, thankful to be in a city that has roads and the people are so happy.
Speak again soon xx
