Hey all,
We are waiting for a bus back to Bangkok at the moment so I thought i would catch you up on what we have been doing!
After Phuket we caught a flight to Chiang Mai in the North of Thailand, it was a much nicer place than Phuket, no one hassling you and very laid back. We went trekking in northern chiang mai near a place called Pai deep in the jungle. We booked on a 3 day trek which i mistakenly thought would be like a nice little stroll through the jungle. On the first day we walked 10km all up hill with our packs on our backs. We climbed 1000m above sea level up to a hill tribe camp. I thought i was going to die because it was 33 degrees and 85 % humiddity which meant it was really hard work. That night we stayed with a Lahu hill tribe, the camp has no electicity and the running water comes straight from the hills, so cold showers outside. The guide cooked us dinner in the Bamboo hut that our group was to sleep in that night. The food was amazing and it was all cooked over an open fire. After dinner the Lahu people came and sang Lahu songs for us and taught us there dances. We were so tired from the trekking that we went to sleep quite early.
The next day the group split into 2 groups of 6 and we headed off, for a day of more trekking though the jungle to see some beautiful waterfalls. That night we stayed at an elephant camp in the jungle, george and the guide Nikkon went to hunt for snacks as nikkon was calling them. They returned with a bowl full of locusts and fried them in garlic. George ate a couple he said he liked them, I tried a leg it tasted like prawn.
The next day we didnt have to do any more treeking, we went on elephants thought the jungle, then went white water rafting which was very scary especially as the guide didnt speak much english and none of us really knew what we were supposed to be doing. Then we went on a relaxing bamboo raft down the river.
We left chiang mai on the night train to Bangkok where george had a nice comfy little cabin and i was stuck on the top cold and uncomfortable!
When we reached Bankok we bought tickets to Kanchanburi, which was really beautiful, we went and saw hell fire pass and the bridge over the river kwae.
After this we caught a bus to Ko Samet where we lazed on the beach for a week. Now we are heading back to Bangkok. Our bus is here so I have to go now.
