We arrived in to Cuzco super early so we headed to a cafe of an Australian lady to have the best biggest breakfast before napping and taking the morning easily.
Cuzco is another Andean city set in the valleys of the highlands so again, I predictably love it. The afternoon was spent at the local black market, at this stage in the trip there were several things people wanted to grab - camera or trek related generally. We also had a nice walk around Cusco main city and square, the main Cathedral is based on the Cathedral in Seviille Spain - which was quite cool to see considering I've been to the original as well, wasn't quite as epic but still very gorgeous.
In the evening we went out to a local kids charity volunteer opportunity organisation restaurant - coincidentally - the exact same one I looked in to volunteering at and had even spoken to the director earlier this year! The restaurant was very cute and a lot of fun, there were silly hats to wear and the menu's were children's story books. After dinner, we managed to randomly met up with Dylan and Julie which was great luck and then even though it was Sunday we all headed out to the night clubs - Cusco is such a tourist town, every night is party night. We went to a place that was offering free Salsa lessons - we all got involved and it was hilarious great fun .... we proceeded to practice our new steps for several more hours and had a brilliant Sunday night out ha.
Monday was spent just chilling in Cusco and getting a feel for the place as there were a few delicate heads around. We caught up with Dylan and Julie again and checked out the Souvenier market, brought a couple of things we needed for our treks and just wondered around admiring Peruvian driving ha. Ineke and I also visited the Inka Museum in an attempt at some culture and to learn about the history of the Inka people before setting off walking in their footsteps. We got a guided tour and learnt more about Inkan culture, especially mummification and life styles, pottery and agriculture etc.
In the evening Peru was playing Bolivia at football so we all went out to watch that, together in our matching recently brought 'Peru' football shirts. An early night is on the cards in order to prepare for the Sacred Valley tomorrow!
