We arrived into Arequipa after the worst sleep on the nightbus - the road was so bumpy and so windy ... it didn't matter the bus was super awesome and comfy - sleep was just not going to happen! So, we all took the morning pretty slowly - ie we slept.
We had the afternoon to explore this gorgeous city though. I really love these Andean cities, their style is still quite colonial so there are some amazing streets, building and churches but also - it's all set with the most gorgeous mountanous backdrop, stunning.
Today was also the day of trying some local foods. I never got round to trying Cuy (Guinea Pig) in Ecuador so really - it had to be done. We all decided to share one, just incase we didn't like it. Our tour guide insisted we get one whole - and deep fried. It was the creepiest thing ever when it came out, head complete with teeth and body with little feet and tones and all - all deep fried. Eurgh, photos to come. Surprisingly - it didn't taste bad! It was quite good really. But, too much work - they're all bones really and you have to try pretty hard to get the meat off, they're also quite fatty. So, glad I tired, wont be trying again! We also tried some Alpaca. Now this, is delcious. Kind of a mix between lamb and venison but with a much more gamey taste. Feel so bad ... I like it so much ... and Alpacas are so cute! (Much cuter than Llamas!)
Tonight we headed out for a couple of Pisco Sours (local traditional drink - so good) and managed to catch up with Rachel and Brendon from back home which was really great fun to catch up with them and hear some stories of all the snow choas back home.
