Well, I know it has been a couple of months since I added to the blog (and we have been home for almost that long) but I always did intend of completing our journey so here we go.
At Nuremberg we had a choice of either a tour of medieval Nuremberg or the World War II tour of Hitler's Party Rally grounds and the court room of the Nuremberg trials. Brad and I decided to go our separate ways with me going on the medieval tour and Brad the WWII tour.
Nuremberg is overlooked by a large castle. Most of the city was completely destroyed in WWII (in 90 minutes) and the historical buildings were rebuilt using mostly the same stones and the same designs. It is well known for its Christmas markets and its specialty gingerbread called "Lebkuchen". In the town square there is a fountain (that curiously does not have any water) with a gold ring on it that is supposed to bring good luck if you spin it several times (and probably while standing on one leg while reciting the alphabet backwards - I really cannot remember the details).
At the WWII tour, Brad visited the rally grounds of the Nazi party and the Nazi Documentation Centre Museum. The Nazi Party Rallies were held every year in September from the late 1920's up until 1938. Hitler had grand ideas for the parade grounds but they have now fallen into disrepair. Brad would have liked to stand on the podium where Hitler had stood but it appeared this was not part of the tour.
In the afternoon, back on board and cruising towards Regensburg, we cross the Continental Divide which means that the lochs we go through from now on will be downhill.
