Well, Brad and I are off again, this time on a Wendy Wu tour of Cambodia and Vietnam called Angkor to the Bay.
We left Brisbane at 6am on Saturday and finally arrived in Siam Reap 18 hours later after 3 plane flights quite exhausted. Siam Reap is famous for the world heritage listed site of Angkor Watt.
Sunday morning we commenced our tour with a 7am start visiting the temples of the area. First we went to Angkor Thom and the Elephant Terrace where many of the stones are covered in intricate carvings.
Later we explored the temple familiar to many as the place in the movie Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolie. The temple is called Ta Prohm. After a well deserved lunch at a local restaurant we walked to the Angkor Watt temple. The temperature by this stage was getting really hot and several of our group decided not to climb to the top of the temple. Angkor Watt temple is built on three levels. The bottom level represents hell, the middle level is the human level, while the top level represents heaven (of course). To reach heaven we had to climb a very steep stairway of 37 steps. We made it to heaven but then we had to turn around and come back down again.
Arriving back at the hotel we had a refreshing swim and rest before going to dinner in downtown Siam Reap. The food has been very good so far (well, maybe the dessert was a bit ordinary). We capped the night off with a Tuk-Tuk ride back to the hotel which was fun - only $2.
Photos to come if I am able to load them.
