Day 3
After yesterdays early start + packed day we decided to take it easy this morning...Amanda was up and out at 9.30..I on the other hand took full advantage of the lie in + woke at 12.30!
We headed into Siem Reap town for lunch and then met Sinat at 2 for another afternoon of temple touring. We visted temples further away including Pre Rup, Ta Som, Neak Peak and Preah Khan. The temples were much quieter with fewer tourists - suprisingly...no major mishaps to report! Some amazing sites and lots more walking.
The children selling souvenirs outside the temples are alot more full on and very persistant. I tried to be meaner when saying no so they would get the message...but wasn't very good at it and a stern NO was followed by im very sorry..much to amandas amusement.
Another great temple touring afternoon..Amanda ran two camera batteries out and we are now looking forward to boring you all with hundreds of temple pictures!!
The night was spent in town. A few cocktails (1 pound each!!!) and home for another early start the next morning.
Day 4
Up at 6am!! We are very proud of ourselves...but with it being so hot in the middle of the day an early start is the only way to get everything in. We met Sinat at reception and headed off on a pretty long drive. We went to visit two temples and a jungle. First stop was Banteay Srey which was 37km from Siam Reap. It took about 1.5 hours which is a long time in a tuk tuk!! The temple was one of the oldest (11th century) and was great to see and worth the hair raising drive.
Next stop was another 15km to Keal Spean to see carrvings in the jungle. The guide book said 'moderatelly easy trek' as Jim from the Royal Family would say - my arse! We would redescribe it as 'easy in small places and bloody difficult in others, some bouldering moves required and flip flops not suitable'. Although saying that I wore flip flops and Amanda has daps and the fall count ended 0-1! The views were amazing and the rocks rocked! Although I don't think trekking 3 miles in 36+ degrees heat was one of my brightest ideas ....there is a pattern forming! Amanda is now in charge of the Phnom Penh itinary..although she has mentioned a visit to the rubbish dump so watch this space....
A little boy called Toy finally cracked us before getting on the tuk tuk and we ended up buying some Cambodge postcards! We don't know either!
Our final visit of the day was to Banteay Samre temple which again was great to see butwe are now templed out!
Tonight we are planning to go to the night market and frequent some drinking establishments!! Glad we stayed the extra day in Siem Reap, it is a cool place, the temples are awesome and the people are great.
We leave tomorrow (thurs) on a 5 hour bus journey to Phnoh Penh - lets hope we don't need the toilet!
