Today, we planned to drive around to places that Philip and I remembered and to show them to Erin. First, we drove by the house where Jane was living when Philip was born. We had never seen it before. It is right by White Rock Lake and about three miles from the next stop on our tour--the house where he grew up. Erin had never seen it before since his parents moved from there before she was born. We drove by the church where we got married and the Boy Scout hut that Philip went to. We saw Bryan Adams High School next and just drove around in the area for a while so Philip could see and point out other places he remembered. We must have passed right by one of the first apartments we had together, but never identified it. I think we picked it out, but couldn't remember for sure.
Our drive did not take as long as I expected so we had time to stop by Dealey Plaza and go to the Sixth Floor Museum. As many times as we have been in that neighborhood, we had never been to the museum. It is fascinating and extremely well-done. Most museums I have seen have been about things that happened well before I was alive. It was most interesting to see this one and remember the day that JFK was assassinated. The displays are beautifully presented and they have wonderful artifacts, photos, and videos of interviews with eye witnesses.
For lunch, we took Erin to El Fenix just north of downtown. Even though she is not a fan of Tex-Mex we wanted to show her the restaurant that was our favorite when we were newlyweds. They served a 99 cent special enchilada plate with a pitcher of sangria on Wednesday nights. It was our favorite treat that we could actually afford. Everything was just as good as we remembered.
Next, we drove to Grand Prairie to see the Louis Tussaud Palace of Wax. It was fun to walk through to see the statues--many of them pretty real looking, but a few that didn't quite seem right. But is was a nice outing; they were not busy at all. I guess everyone else was out Christmas shopping.
We went on to the hotel in Arlington next. The traffic is just as bad as I remember. I don't miss that at all. We can see AT&T Stadium out Erin's room window. Ours looks over a honky tonk and the highway. We can also see Humperdinks restaurant out Erin's window. I made reservations for us for dinner there by calling them directly. They are on Open Table, but Open Table said they had no openings that night. I'm glad I called. There were lots of TVs around the restaurant with the Redskins/Eagles game on. It was funny to see all these Cowboys fans cheering for the Redskins, but their win helped the Cowboys playoff chances. Food was good and plentiful; service was fine. Prices were okay, too.
