Another three-plus hour drive today got us to San Antonio. We took the route west from Conroe through Montgomery turning south at Navasota to avoid the Houston traffic. It's the best way to go. We have had the gear shift fail to change out of park on the first try a few times during the last few days so we asked Shaun and Yvette to come get us for dinner. We drove to San Antonio and checked in at the Doubletree before going to Shaun and Yvette's home. We took time to visit for a while before going with Shaun driving our car to The Cove for dinner. It’s a casual place with long communal tables both indoors and out serving locally grown or raised food—mostly hamburgers. Live music started while we were still eating with open mike to follow. Spent a lazy morning at the hotel. It's nice to sleep late and not worry about being much of anywhere on time. We walked around the hotel a little bit and saw the tall pine trees up close. It was a fairly pleasant walk although we were very close to the congestion of the highway--just a couple of buildings and blocks away.
