Alli & Pete's Adventures
17 days in absolute wilderness, this was a wonderful tour that Pete & I did with Trek America. We had a really nice tour guide Jeff and a bus of about a dozen people to travel and share the adventure with. We drove alot of miles around Alaska and camped in little tents for most of the time, staying in a lodge only once that I can remember ! It was the only tour I have ever done where you have to share in the cooking & cleaning duties, probably the last too, when I go on holidays I don't want to do housework ! But it was well worth the trip to see this incredible land, viewing some amazing landscapes and wildlife that most people will never have the opportunity to see in their lifetime. We took so many rolls of film, even getting some close-ups of a grizzly bear (but it was behind bars in a wildlife sanctuary !). There are just so many things we did that it would be impossible to list them all here, it is probably a much better idea for you to look at the Photos we have uploaded onto this website instead. I would have to say though that the highlights for me are as follows :
* flightseeing over Mt McKinley ;
* sea kayaking to a glacier at Valdez ;
* ice climbing near Mc Carthy (Wrangells National Park) ;
* wildlife bus tour through Denali National Park ;
* riding on the cycle path along the coastline in Anchorage ;
* fishing for salmon (and catching loads !) ;
* staying on a secluded island in a 'jungle camp' for a couple of nights ;
* admiring sunset over the Matanuska Glacier & seeing Northern Lights ;
* catching up with my friends Bill & Jason in Anchorage after the tour.
