I am very pleased to announce that for the next 2 weeks my blog will have a special guest appearance…Mummy Reynolds!! :D
Mum arrived in Tela at lunchtime on Saturday, an hour later than expected, but that's Caribbean time for you! It was all very exciting as we haven't seen each other in 7 months, which is a very very long time. We spent the rest of the day looking around Tela, with the very odd feeling that we were not only in the same time zone, or even in the same country but standing right next to each other. Yay!!
On Sunday we had booked to do the kayaking tour around Punta Izopo, which was featured in my blog a few weeks back when Anna and I did it for her birthday. We started the day with a lovely breakfast of pancakes, fruit and honey before being collected from our hotel for our tour. Mum and I got in to our kayak, which was a bit wobbly to start with but we soon got the hang of it and after just 5 miutes we were gliding through the water like a very elegant, giant red plastic swan. Luckily this time there were only 6 people on the tour, unlike the 21 last time, which meant it was much quieter, a lot more relaxing, and we got to see loads more animals. Following our guide we paddled up the lagoon and in and out of the mangroves. We were lucky enough to see loads of birds (herons, parakeets, gucamaya macaws, and mangrove swallows), butterflies that flashed in the sun, 2 baby crocodiles, 2 baby black turtles, a massive poisonous spider (which just happened to be the second most deadly in Honduras and if bitten you could die within 5 hours!!) and an otter!!! We could also hear the sounds of white-faced monkeys and howler monkeys but unfortunately didn't get to see them, despite Anna waving a banana in the air. And this was all in just 2 and a bit hours. By the time had finished we were in desperate need of a break, thankfully it was time for lunch, and so we were taken to the local village to enjoy the most delicious garlic prawns which I have definitely raved about before.
On Sunday evening we got invited round by Graciela and Raul for baleadas. I got to show Mum round the house where I live, which only really comprises of 2 rooms so it wasn't the longest of tours. Then we all had a go at making baleada tortillas, which basically means getting a ball of dough and slapping it back and forth between your hands (a bit like how magical people make their pizza dough round I suppose but much smaller). We produced a few interesting shapes between the four of us, but we cooked them anyway and sat down for Mum's first ever baleada. Being the wonderful daughter that I am I just sat there and watched her majorly over fill her baleada, not giving any of the useful "baleada making advice" I have gathered over the past 7 months, I think she enjoyed it (although you will have to check with her for confirmation of that). After the baleadas Anna and her Mum produced a cake which they had bought (what a treat!), and so we all randomly sang Happy birthday (even though it was nobody's birthday) and tucked into a slice of very delicious cake.
As you can see we managed to pack a fair amount in to our first day together in Honduras, and by the end of it we were both shattered (and jet lagged in Mums case).
It already feels like this week is going too fast, but hopefully we will find time to do lots more exciting things and then tell you all about them.
Double the Love and Hugs
