Week 2 volunteering, another busy week. We started by going to the elementary school in La Paz as they were starting their healthy eating/ feeding programme for the 5 and 6 year old - many are malnourished. Every Tuesday is medical mission to one of the rural districts, where the city health office basically ups sticks and relocates for the morning! Including dental and optical services. The OAPs are given a rice allowance, and they also give away seedlings for various vegetables for them to grow.
A couple of days helping out at City health office, bit of heavy rain overnight some evenings and a few powercuts - one lasting 2 hrs in the evening.
Friday, we had heavy rain most of the morning, but I got to go and visit several different pharmacies to see how it all works in the Philippines - OMG some of the practices scared me as no pharmacist in charge of what was happening!!!
Everything is done on paper, and every script is written into a prescription book, only one of the pharmacies we visited offered any services (bp and bg), although a couple of them said they hope to be doing vaccinations soon - will certainly help their health service out ( at the moment patients see the doctor, doctor writes script, patient takes the script to pharmacy, pharmacy dispenses, patient takes back to doctor for injecting - very long winded).
