Heading to Neuras with (mostly) a great group - Zoe, Annika, Adam, Monika, Camilla, Jayne and son and Liz the coordinator. To avoid Adam and I having to share with son and mum respectively we decided to ask to share instead so became roomies for the week. We eneded up in the only room without air-con which made for some steamy nights!
The week started with a sun-downer and proceeded with camera trap checking, cheetah feeding, gps training, fence removal and other fun activities. There was a medi-training course going on and we had to set up a hike route to be navigated by gps. We divided into teams and our team (Adam, Annika, Zoe and myself) got the bum deal and our route went over a mountain and back down - I was very grumpy by the end!
Mid week was a trip to Soussevlei - a playlist was put together and singing played a large part in keeping us entertained. We climbed Big Daddy (some faster than others) and arrived at the top. Just when we were wondering how to take a group photo of us and our bottles of pretend champagne Jeremy arrived over the brow of the dune. He was in Namibia on a conference and had taken holiday to explore. He had climbed the dune alone with his two medical kits and was quickly adopted into our gang whether he liked it or not! Jeaneete declared it was her best ever trip!
On an walk to find and mark hyena evidence people got distracted and ignored Jeanette's instructions to stay together. To get them back we pretended I had injured myself (not totally improbable) and I limped and cried my way back to the truck until Son and Adam came to carry me and when back I revealed our ploy - Adam was really angry with Liz and Jeanette but even he admitted I could have won an oscar!
The final challenge was a walk in Honey Canyon where Jeanette was determined to cure me of my fear of heights. After her and Liz having to inch me up a cliff we decided that I could not be cured - when I bought them thank you drinks Jeanette said she was going to apologise to me as she hadn't realised that I really was scared of heights.
