Off to another lake but first was a trial that Felicity and I bore as well as we could - a visit to an orphanage...
A good set up with about 20 children between 1 month and 17 years old. They got food and schooling and seemed to be happy with their lot. Our mission was to hand over our donations and play with them for an hour and half. I played the part of someone who enjoyed this and managed to fool everyone but I was glad to leave and get back on the road.
We got to Lake Naivashi campsite right on the banks of the lake. The tours Felicity, Tanya, Danielle and I were on included a hippo cruise so we headed off in a small boat to get up close and personal with the hippos. We also saw a lot of birds and went alongside Crescent Island, location for some of Out of Africa and a haven for the usua prey species and no predcators had made it to the island.
Back at camp John taught us how to make chapatis and we had a lovely traditional Kenyan meal.
The next day some of the others went off to cycle around Hell's Gate national park but Felicity and I spent the day by the pool before all of us except Bubu headed for high tea at Elsamere, the home of Joy Admason of Born Free fame.
We drove past numerous flower farms (most of the UK's roses come from here!) and arrived at the house - we were to meet another new face here, Sophie who was joining Felicity's tour. The others had decided to do a social experiment and not warn her about Steph. (this didn't go well as when she found out she revealed she just felt excluded by us as it was clear we weren't talking to Steph and therefore not her as Steph had attached herself like glue)
We watched a documentary - Joy was a strange woman - and then had a yummy tea and explored the beautiful gardens with Colubus monkeys in the trees above us.
Back to the campsite to ready ourselves for our last game drives in Maasi Mara.
